HOW TO: OMBRE LIP

Lipstick is my favourite way to not only transform an otherwise bland outfit, but recently I have really enjoyed experimenting with different colours, shades and styles which is when I came across this tutorial from Boohoo HQ Makeup Artist, Ruth. I thought I would run through a step by step approach as to how I go about trying to create this look if you wanted a more in-depth tutorial- keep reading!

Step 1:  Prepare, Prepare and Prepare.
Start by exfoliating your lips with a gentle exfoliate, my favourite is the Bubblegum Lip Scrub from Lush. Alternatively, you can make a homemade scrub by mixing baking soda and water together and applying it on your lips with a soft-bristle toothbrush. Rub in a circular motion and then rinse thoroughly. Finish the whole process by moisturising your lips with one of your favourite lip balms, mine is Lucas Paw Paw ointment which is cheap and always has amazing results on my lips. Then get comfortable while you wait for the balm to really soak in before moving onto the next step!

Step 2: Get those lips in line.
Line the lips with a darker lip pencil going inward until you reach the centre of the lips. By using  a pencil as the first layer of colour, it allows definition and resistance throughout the day- woohoo!. If the line isn't perfect don't worry because we will be blending the colours in later and can fix areas with a cotton wool point.  Apply the first layer of colour using a darker lip pencil (this allows definition in the lips).

Step 3: Ombre time!
Apply a lighter shade of lipstick to the centre of your lips using a lip brush to ensure precision and not to ruin the colour. Gently blend both colours where they meet until you reach the desired ombre effect.

Ombre lips is a really fun way to spice up your makeup, and the best part is you can tone it down to a wearable subtle daytime look, or use brighter shades for a dramatic evening look- its all up to you! I hope you enjoyed this little tutorial, if you want to have a look my other favourite boohoo tutorial at the moment (which is all about creating the perfect textured ponytail), check that out here and let me know what you think!
